If it does work, may I suggest one more idea...

Allow a few saved clips. I think 8 would be plenty
or one could get confused and forget which is which.

clip.save(3)  and   clip.restore(3)

myvar = 5
clip.save(myvar)

;; saves to ...\powerpro\savedclip5.dat

That way, I would use clip 1 only for scripts:

clip.save(1)
clip.setpaste("this text")
clip.restore(1)

and use a few of the others in my Photoshop only bar,
one button for each clip.
