Ah, sorry about the inadequate presentation. It is simply a completely
missing bmp... wrong path would adequately describe the condition I
guess. And it is not affecting the application's graphics. It "feels"
like the PowerPro key mapper is getting whopped up side the head and
is madly remapping events... e.g., the mouse wheel causes a browser's
font to change size rather than scrolling pages. Exiting PowerPro
clears up the problem(s) so it is definitly PowerPro causing the
problem. (stack issue?) Immediately rerunning PowerPro does not
immediatly destablize the system but sooner-or-later the chaos will
start again. Supplying the missing bmp also seems to resolve the
problem... or, at least it extends the time it takes for the problem
to appear beyond three days (the length of time the machine has been
running without issue since I discovered the hypothetical solution).

Actually, since i wrote that message it occured to me that to be
absoluetly certain of my facts I will need to restore the original
offending (and very "organic") configuration and see if supplying the
missing bitmap file resolves the instability there as well. Maybe I
will try that tomrrow. I will let you know what happens.

re, evan

PS: I was kind'a surprised that I didn't get any "missing file"
warnings from PowerPro. Of course, if the background image had been an
important element of my design I would have probably been more aware
that it was missing but it's use was very experimental (read, not
important) so when the bmp was deleted I didn't notice the loss of
background.
