Hi to all,

i am working on a script with the dialog plugin, providing the
possibillity to search for files. This script - if it will work -
might be used by several "normal" users in our company - so i want to
keep the input-dialog as easy as possible.
Currently i use "file.allfiles" without patterns to get the folders
(including subfolders) and file.listfiles with patterns to get the
files of each folder filtered according to the pattern. This allready
works fine.
But because of some reasons i want to do the filtering by myself
(and not using the filtering done by file.listfiles with pattern).
In other words: i want to use file.listfiles without pattern
including subfolders and i want to check within the script, if the
filename fits the pattern or not.
Now my question is: how can i do this? I couldn't find a string-
function which does a pattern-search on a string. "Index" just
searches one string in another. I know that i am quite close to the
Regex-Plugin, with this request. But i can't ask the user to enter a
Regex just for file searching. They are used to use someting like
A*.txt or similar.
Is there a way in PowerPro to search patterns in strings - like for
example: a*.txt or like somehow in captions?
Or is there a way to transform such a "normal" pattern into a regex ?

Best regards Detlef

p.s.
Searched the forum and the help for "string", "pattern", "filter",
"mask".

A RegEx-Search on the PowerPro-Help-Files could be quite helpful
sometimes.
