Hello. As you may know, patches have recently been committed to the main linux kernel tree to enable the hpet timer on systems where the bios doesn't provide an option to enable it. However, these patches are chipset-specific and the ATI IXP chipset is unfortunately not one of the supported chipsets. It appears that many bioses on ixp-based machines do not provide an option for enabling hpet - for instance the bios for HP's AMD-based laptops do not contain such an option.
As far as I know, the chipset information necessary for the kernel to enable hpet on ixp-based machines is not publicly available. Would there be any possibility of this information being made available to kernel developers? I should emphasize that I'm not a kernel hacker, just an interested owner of an ixp-based laptop.
