Hi Johan,
  I have good news that I found out how the HPET is enabled and when it can be 
enabled.  There may however be confusion as not all of the IXP chipsets 
actually even have the capability.  It is only the SB450 versions A13 and 
above and the SB460 so the SB400 would be out of luck.  We at AMD will look 
into getting the HPET turned on for the chips that have it.
