Hi list, I saw the PowerTOP 2.0 beta announcement and wanted to give it a try. For some reasons I'm having a lot of problems with it, even though
I'm using the default Arch Linux 2.6.37 "testing" 64-bit kernel (which is pretty much unmodified vanilla kernel). Configuration is available here: http://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/kernel26/repos/testing-x86_64/config The machine is a quad-core Phenom II X4 940 on an AMD 760G chipset (Asus M3A76-CM) First, I also see an empty "Idle stats" screen, as reported by Ian Kumlien earlier. Old PowerTOP didn't report idle state statistics either, but at least it had an explanatory message. Second, what's the sort logic on the overview screen? Firefox (Flash) consistently uses more CPU and produces more events than PulseAudio, why is it sorted lower? Summary: 559.2 wakeups/second, 0.0 GPU ops/second and 0.0 VFS ops/sec Usage Events/s Category Description 5.7 ms/s 102.6 Process /usr/bin/pulseaudio --star 15.1 ms/s 202.9 Process /opt/firefox-beta-bin-4.0b 8.9 ms/s 99.9 Process /opt/firefox-beta-bin-4.0b 3.1 ms/s 75.3 Timer hrtimer_wakeup 1.4 ms/s 26.2 Timer tick_sched_timer 0.9 ms/s 8.2 Process gyachi 0.8 ms/s 7.9 Process urxvt 18.0 ms/s 0.6 Process htop Third, the GPU and VFS counters are always 0.0 -- even when I run glxgears or try to perform filesystem operations. Am I missing something? (I'm using KMS Radeon driver) Fourth, the "Frequency stats" screen starts up showing good numbers, but after the first refresh, all per-core numbers turn bogus. For each core, the percentages always add up to 1895% ! Package | CPU 0 Idle 78.2% | Idle 1797.8% 3.00 Ghz 8.8% | 3.00 Ghz 42.2% 800 Mhz 12.6% | 800 Mhz 53.3% 1.80 Ghz 0.3% | 1.80 Ghz 1.4% 2.31 Ghz 0.1% | 2.31 Ghz 0.3% | CPU 1 | Idle 1760.4% | 800 Mhz 93.8% | 3.00 Ghz 36.8% | 1.80 Ghz 3.5% | 2.31 Ghz 0.5% | CPU 2 | Idle 1701.2% | 800 Mhz 80.7% | 3.00 Ghz 110.6% | 1.80 Ghz 2.0% | 2.31 Ghz 0.5% | CPU 3 | Idle 1845.2% | 800 Mhz 42.0% | 3.00 Ghz 7.4% | 1.80 Ghz 0.4% | 2.31 Ghz 0.0% Fifth, all PCI devices are listed with 100% usage on the "Device stats" screen; is this normal?
