I live in the lower 48, but I think that in your case I think that I would
send it to you US friend. The AASP does not have the incentive to do it all
or get it correct that Apple has.
But the longer I think of it, the only power related repair of the 5300 under
the REA is a loose or broken power plug, on the mobo. Why don't you post to
the list what the "power
symptoms" are. Any other problems are explicitly _excluded_ from the REA.
In the US, it usually takes 4-5 days to have it back in your hands . The day
after you call it in, you will have the authorized shipping box in your hands
with a prepaid shipping slip. Apple prolly realizes that shipments in and out
of Canada get delayed and have additional charges if not documented
correctly, so they chose the "keep it inside of Canada" approach to avoid the
hassle of import/export, cost and time delays.
If you decide to use your friend as a forwarder, use your name and "care of"
his address.
