I called Apple on Friday about the 5300 REA and because of some power
symptoms that the computer is displaying, this new-to-me 5300cs does
fall under the REA. However, because I'm located in Canada, Apple
isn't going the extra step of sending out a shipping box and having
the powerbook sent to Cupertino. Instead I was given several names of
companies who are classed as 'specialists' and told to contact them
regarding the programme.
My concern with at least one of the names given is that the previous
owner spent $150 six months ago to have the power outages 'fixed' and
yet the problem continued. So I fear that the 'local specialists'
aren't doing the entire fixes that Apple has been doing as
precautionary insurance, and charging the unsuspecting for 'warrantee
work' as well.
Has anyone on the list had their powerbook repaired in Canada under
the programme and where did you send it? Were you happy with the work
done? I'm willing to ship it out of province to get a good job done,
and if need be, I'll even ship it to a friend in the US who will act
as the owner to have Apple do the work themselves and then have it
shipped back.
Thanks for any input.
