If the serial number is missing from the bottom of the computer,
Apple will ask you to go into System Profiler and see what the serial
number of the hard drive is. If that is missing, and apparently
reformatting a hard drive will lose that information, then there is
"apparently" no way for Apple to verify if the powerbook has gone
through the program. When you call the Apple number they will ask you
what particular symptoms you are experiencing and if any of those
symptoms fall under the possibility of the REA, then you'll be given
an Apple Case Number.

In my case, the computer will not turn back on again if it's been
turned off within a certain time frame. It makes no difference if I'm
on battery or on power, and hitting the reset button makes absolutely
no difference. The only thing that helps is to let it sit for an hour
of so and then trying to restart. Usually I have to use the reset
button to get it going.

I didn't mention to Apple that the upper card slot doesn't work,
which may or may not be related. Wherever I send the powerbook for
the fix, I'll see if that can also get fixed.

I told Apple that I was probably the sixth or seventh owner. They
still gave me an Apple Case Number.

If you go to the Apple site and do a search on "REA" or "30425"
you'll get more info from Apple.
