Whaddayausing?
It is the AppleTalk control panel in OS 8.1. Open Transport 1.3 is
installed with the OS. Hook up an external modem and use the freeware
ProbeModem to see if it can talk to it. TattleTech, TechTool Pro or even
dialling a # with Claris/AppleWorks' communications module will do this.
This'll at least tell you if it's working. They do die - the IC
controlling the port can burn out - not that I'm trying to panic you at
this stage. That comes later.
Do LocalTalk devices work? (i.e., PostScript printers?). The first thing
to do is establish that the port works. Ensure the AppleTalk control
panel is switched to Printer/Modem port.
If we're talking StyleWriters, we'll sort that out later.
