Setting up the Duo modems is fussy.  You need the telecom SW, version 
2.3.3.  Install that and see what happens.

Type 4 is a third party battery, usually about 1800 mAh.  I rebuilt a 
type 3 battery at a local place using 2150 mAh cells for $100.

Batteries you find on ebay are usually a crap shoot.
