Wow!  Can't believe you attempted opening the PB500 with no manual.  Even 
with the downloaded service manual from Apple I still found it complicated.  
I broke the tiny prongs on the part that covers the microphone  too - a weak  
and important design point that can mess up the function of the cover hinge.. 

Someone on the list later mentioned that it comes off easier using 2 tiny 
bladed screwdrivers instead of one. and carefully insert them into the 3 
points where they connect. 

I fastened the broken one back on with a strip of 1/2 inch scotch tape run 
horizontally along the 2 edges.  So far so good. I first tryed vinyl tape but 
it stretched.  The stiffer scotch tape seems to work better.

Would you be so kind as to tell me where you purchased the 500 Pram 
batteries?  And how much it cost?
