For future reference, I've found that calling or emailing the sales
department of the various websites that specify "UPS" will result in
the package being sent USPS. Even those sites that specify "lower 48
states only" have shipped to me in Ontario once I make the initial
contact. The package delivery companies pick up the packages through
the companies' shipping department so it's easier for a shipment to
go UPS from the shippers' pov. As long as you tell the person you're
talking with that you're willing to wait a reasonable amount of time
until the next run to the post office, they're willing to bend their
'rules'.
For those companies who won't, add a conservative brokerage fee of at
least $45 to the cost of the item, and 15 percent for taxes. Tell
them what your true cost is if you purchase through them, and then
buy elsewhere.
