Well this machine maybe 5 years old but with a 1/2 inch gap
on the left hand side of the screen plastics I would say this is
highly suspect that this separation of plastics caused the current
problems of changing colors and losing the desk top picture all
together when pressure is applied to tha the left side where the gap
is.
Agreed parts for a 5 year old machine maybe a little hard to
keep in place, but that is not really that old and we know the
problem parts in these machines and the history. They built these
190/5300 machines and they should support the problem, this problem
is not a random act of god, this is bad manufacturing. The reason I
buy Apple, starting in 1984 at a premium costs is one word-quality,
all I have ever replaced (other then my own upgrades) on any Apple up
to my 61 is a pram battery. My 2 1400s no problems, my 2 190s and 1
5300 problems.
If I am to take the trail of the new OS X and the hardware
that will go along with it then I expect it to be supported now and 5
years down the road. The REA is a good step for apple but a smoking
screen with gaps in the plastic is unacceptable, especially if indeed
it has already been through the REA program
As I posted earlier the REA is not all that quality
oriented, the one 190 came back and I had to open it and reseat the
ram, no big deal to me but to someone who has not opened one of these
up they would have had a machine that did not show the full ram
amount and guess what back to Apple it goes, along with that
customers confidence level.
My feelings are if they fix it they can expect an order for a
new G4 powerbook (mine!) and 2 ibooks (kids) plus a desk top
(everyones) to replace my trusty 6100 G3 and the older PBs. If not I
will upgrade but buy used and proven.
I have always liked to support Apple with new buys at these
times of change hence the last new buy 6100-when I bought that the
word was Apple was dead, stock was $10 and diving but I knew these
guys built quality and supported them. I think this is another big
time for Apple with the new OS and I am feeling I could use new and
they could use the support.
This is not a matter of me getting Apple to pay $400.00 for a
new screen, I do not even need the screen really, just plug in the
monitor works fine. This is a matter of Apple backing up their
mistake, and it can be argued how long are they responsible but the
new ones come with a 1 year plus 3 year Apple care so I am not that
far off here I am honest to a to a T with people but I believe this
is their responsibility . Only my view of this problem and the REA
