With that said, I've tried all the suggestions and absolutely none have
worked. I've come to the conclusion that the 5300 is somehow unable to
communicate with the Megahertz pcmcia modem card at full speed. 31,200
seems to be the highest speed that both pieces of hardware can communicate
at together.
I've been told that Diamond Supra, Global Village, and even Generic PC cards
will actually work together at the suggested speed of 56k (or as close as
the government allows). I'll try looking for a flash utility at the USR
website that will perhaps increase my cards functionality, but for the most
part I think my hardware is being a hindrance to the modem.
Perhaps, I'd be interested in trading this card to someone on the list. It
may fare better in a faster Mac notebook (i.e. 3400, 2400, etc.). Please
