I'd get the cD-RW iBook...if nothing else, you can BACK UP your stuff 
that way, something I'll wager hasn't been done very often with that 540 
of yours... That model is by far the most versatile of the iBook setups. 
You don't think a CD-RW is useful now because I'll wager you don't have 
one...I used to think that, now my CD-R is probably my most valued 
peripheral (YOU have a hard drive go bad, and realiuze that _EVERYTHING_ 
is gone, and then heave a sigh of relief becasue you have a week-old 
backup...)

Don't buy more RAM from Apple, it's hideously expensive. Adding RAM is 
an end-user task, doesn't void your warrantee, and is generally the one 
place to save the most money.

As for getting the EDU discount, do it via Apple's Education 
Store...that's the easiest IMO...
