I use Netscape as my default browser on my Wallstreet -- system 9.0.4. Although I have a copy of IE on one of the partitions, I rarely if ever use it.
I once received an e-mail (via Eudora) with a web-page attachment from a PC friend. Somehow, the e-mail searched out IE and auto-opened the attachment in IE. It has only happened that one time. So much for MS OS and applications controlling only PCs....
