All the stuff I've seen from Apple says you can use 5300 batteries in 
newer models in which they fit.  The reverse isn't true though.  The 
5300 was supposed to be LiOn but since a few of the early ones kind 
of caught fire Apple dropped them and used NiMh.  With later models 
they did use LiOn.  The charging circuits of later PBs work with any 
of them (I think there are actually three types of batteries in that 
form factor.)
