You might also consider looking for a PCMCIA module for the 540 and use a
compact flash adapter (a PCMCIA type card that you insert the compact flash
card into). Then the card should simply show as a disk on your desktop.

I did this with a PB1400 (using a SmartMedia adapter instead). This was
infinitely easier than messing with cables.
