That's the same problem I have. I probably should upgrade, but I'd like
to fix it. I'm frustrated because the keyboard only became clunky after
the clueless tech opened the computer up. Which makes me think it's the
way the keyboard is sitting in the case or something else I might be
able to fix. But it doesn't seem anyone has any suggestions about what
it might be (although several people have said they have had similar
problems with their Blackbirds).

Thanks for the reply.

I too have a clunky keyboard on a 520/540C (its a bit of both).
Bought a second keyboard via eBay and that helped a lot but I still
hate the key action. Plan to upgrade to a G3/266 Wallstreet shortly.
Never could fix the keyboard problem - I spend all day hitting the
delete button to go over words that have letters missing. The funny
thing is that after I part out the two almost new batteries, the 500
Mb hard drive, the 32Mb ram chip, the car charger, and then finally
the whole computer (with the old parts thrown back in with a new PRAM
battery and the new keyboard), the G3/266 will only cost about $200
more.

Subject: 520c sticky keyboard

I've got a 520c that has had some upgrade work done, some successful
and
some not so. A few years back I upped the ram to max and installed a
100mhz PowerPC. Great decision. More recently, I took it to someone
recommended by a not-so-knowledgeable friend, along with a 540c screen
(wanted active matrix and the passive screen was developing problems)
bought on eBay and a 500 meg replacement hard drive. They did the work
and I picked up the blackbird without closely examining it (big
mistake)
as I was in the middle of a bunch of projects. Well, some time passed
and I wanted to take the computer on the road and noticed the "end
cap"
for one of the battery bays was missing. Then I noticed the keyboard
keys were sticking a bit and felt very stiff, and to top it all off,
there was a small hair stuck somewhere in the screen! It had been so
long I didn't feel like I could take it back and complain, so again I
put it away (after jumping up and down and cursing). But I'd like to
get
the keyboard back to it's nice feeling and get rid of the hair (!).
And
oh yes, I found the end cap! It was lodged _inside_ the battery bay! I
removed it by loosening the bottom screws and prying it out with
needle
nose pliers. My question is, and sorry to rant so long, does anyone
have
advice for checking/fixing the keyboard? I'll just start unscrewing
stuff and go in with some compressed air to try to take care of that
hair. Thanks!!

Seth
