Hello everyone!

It's nice to find a list for my kind of tech. I'm the
proud new owner of a used 5300c -- just exactly what I
wanted (We run a 6500 and a 6400 desktop systems.)

It came with a klunky but usable external scsi CD-rom,
and as soon as I got it home I upgraded to 8.6 from
8.1, which is what the desktop systems are running. I
also picked up a Farallon Air Dock Ir unit which I was
hoping to hook up to one of the desktops, but I've run
into some problems with that.

Two main questions for right now: That Air Dock. The
documentation that came with it says you need to be
running 7.1 or later, but it talks about the network
panel and other things which I believe got wiped away
with the later os's. The 6500 doesn't even see the
dock when it is connected to the serial and the
passthru adb. I think I need a later version of the
airdock driver or the airpath software, and I think
there is one. Does anyone have one of these running?

The other thing that would be helpful: the cafe where
I do a lot of writing has a free dsl connection. I use
a cable modem hooked up to the 6500 at home - so I
don't know a thing about dsl, and haven't had to think
about a regular dial up modem for over a year. I have
a 14.4 pc card modem for the 5300, what else will I
need to take advantage of the dsl connection at the
cafe? Do I need an ethernet card, and will a pc
card/ethernet type device work on my pb?

I also have some usb devices that I'd like to be able
to use on the go with the 5300. Is there a pc card to
usb device that's worth looking at?

By way of introduction, I write and maintain a
website, my husband uses the computers for graphics.
Lately, I've been getting more into using the graphics
stuff as I slide over toward digital photography, and
he's sliding over toward getting into more audio uses
for the 6400.
