I'm a transplant from other LEM lists, being familiar with everything
from Pluses to 7100/80s. I'm due for surgery and bought an "as is" eBay
540c, my first PowerBook, to take with me. It works great and came with
a 770 MB HD but only 12 MB RAM. The modem was unused and came with the
software still sealed. I put iCab on the 540c and then upgraded the
system from 8 to 8.1. Thanks Apple.

The batteries showed no life signs so I opened the cases and charged
them directly. I also cleared a shorted cell by applying short bursts of
high ma. to that cell. I'm now getting 1 hr, 15 min. from one pack and
30 min. from the other. If these were NiCds, which I am very familiar
with, I would know that they are likely to fail completely at any time.
Is the same true for NiMHs that have lost this kind of capacity? I have
no experience with these critters.

DigiKey is selling 10 Panasonic HHR-210A cells for $51.13. Is there any
place I can get equivalent cells for less? I'm on a very tight budget.

I understand that one needs to carry a laptop in sleep mode as he passes
through airport security. Are there any other tips that will speed
things along/prevent hassles etc? My airport advice comes from books
written well before 9/11.

Thanks in advance,
