I just spent the last month battling through this with my (new) 520.
The first thing is to download Trans Mac onto your PC (WINDOWS. This
program allows you to create a MAC formatted floppy on your Windows
Machine. This also allows you to move items from your Windows downloads
...in my case Stuff it version 4 first, then Netscape 1.1 onto disk then
I put the MAC formatted floppy into the 520 it automatically sees the un
stufit because it's on a Mac and I pull it to the main screen
(desktop?).
For the Browser the best place found is http://browsers.evolt.org They
have every Netscape made Opera Mozilla IE and about 30 other types very
interesting site on Browser evolution. When the 1.1 is brought over you
move the 1.1 file to your desktop and slide it over unstuffit until
unstuffy its wordage goes grey then you release and unstuffit kicks in
and opens the file. The reason for 1.1 is it was one of the few small
enough to fit on a floppy. You will need to know the default gateway (
ip config /all) at a command prompt in windows) because 1.1 is not very
user friendly. Once you hit the net it Netscape sends you to their home
page to begin your new download of Netscape 6? Which my 60840 will not
support so I went to the above link and took Netscape 3.4? down which
had a tough going with java scripts. My final solution I broke down
after getting a free printer monitor and laptop for the Mac I spent
$29.00 for the ICAB download (my trail period only lasted until I
installed it then it wanted me to pay (laugh) It seems to be very
stable, gets stuck once in a while usually on SSL but that may also be
the processor or lack there of or the 12 tiny bits of RAM that are
putting up a valiant fight. I have worked with Windows and am certified
by them but when this 520 came my way I just couldn't see throwing it
out! I have learned more about Mac's in the last month than most will
experience in a lifetime. My many thanks to all of you who have offered
help suggestions and pointed me to the right links
