There is an invisible file on the root of every file-shared volume called
AppleShare PDS. Also in the Preferences folder of the System Folder there is
a folder called File Sharing that contains files relating to this stuff.
Perhaps they have become corrupt? One needs a utility (like ResEdit, for
example) that can see invisible files to excise them. (Word to the wise: I
suspect it's not a good idea to try to remove them while the volume is being
shared....)
