So far I have added an extra goodie in the battle of the external cd. I used an ethernet connection to my 3400 to install os 8.1. That went well enough. I still wanted the external cd to work so I took somebody's advice here on the list. Don't remember who suggested it, but they said I just had to have 2 terminators. So, I went on ebay and bought a pass through scsi terminator to use in conjunction with the terminator I already had and lo and behold, it doesn't work. (yes, I put it in between the cd and the powerbook) This is an AppleCD 600e that works just fine on any machine I have hooked it to including my 3400. If anyone has any idea how to make this work, it would be a good thing. At this point, it is a matter of pig headed determination to make this stupid thing work. I can just grab the hub, 2 cables, and the 3400 and voila, I have a cd rom, but it would be easier to just be able to make it work with the external cd. Too bad they don't make a cd rom module for a 540C. God Bless, Rick
