Mirror mode only at 800x600 on a projector or TV using >> composite out. Not VGA out. No coloured iBook will drive VGA - this means CRT/LCD monitors. Composite (which the Clamshell iBook has) and Composite/S-video (which is what all the G3 Series and later have) are different signals entirely.
There's also a USB composite out solution for the original iBook - forgotten name of it though. I wondered aloud about the value of VGA out (methinks it's essential) on c.s.m.p in '99 when the original iBooks came out and got shot down, with most claiming maybe 20% of users utilised VGA out on portables. Not so sure that's true. OTOH, I've never seen a consumer iMac user use their VGA out port - if they even know they have one. The only iMacs I've seen doing this are in conference centres and lecture theatres where iMacs are hooked up to projectors for PP. But on-topic, most PB users I know have always hooked up their PB to a nice 14" Trinitron at one time or another. Especially in the days when nobody had a colour PowerBook. Or the screens were just small or they were passive matrix or something.
