>Can anyone relate their > experience with OS 8.1 vs 8.5/8.6 on the 2300c?
John, I had a maxed out 2300 (56 megs of RAM) that ran fine on either 8.1 and 8.5. When I upgraded to 8.6 it was a mistake. Besides being awfully slow, the finder would often crash. I also had a lot of conflicts with the serial port so getting online or printing was a nightmare. What a waste of time. Stick with 8.1 if you're a tad low on RAM or go to 8.5 if there are some features in 8.5 you want. I went back to 8.1 (and installed Speed Doubler) for the better speed. I now have a 3400 that came with 9.1. I'm considering putting it down to 8.6, as the computer seems to lull at times. Have some vintage Macs that technically can run 7.6 but I have 7.1 installed. There's a pattern here...I'm finding in my case, a version or two back from the machine's limit seems to be a bit zippier. Laura -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
