Hi Joost,

Thanks for the great proceedural tips!

Last night:
I used the eject button to remove the CD upon turning it on.
Got the smile then the Question Mark;
Used that same system CD to get back in.
Left the System folder last installed, and dragged every item
piece by piece from the original sys folder, dropping it where it belonged.
Hid the remainder in a safe folder.
Tried another boot. . . no go.
Back in and switched the "System File"; i.e., put the
original into the newly created system folder 
and took out the "system file" that was there. . .

Success!!

The pain and frustration of my old LCIII days paid off!
