PowerBookers: I've seen some 1900mAhr & 3500mAhr NiMh rebuilts from PrimeCell for the 3400c, as well as some of the same sort of units (apparently new) for somewhat more money from Batteries Plus. BPlus also sells the 2700mAhr Apple original Lithium ion batteries for $200 (their 3500mAhr NiMh is $140 as I remember). I've heard good things about PrimeCell from others over time.
I'd appreciate any opinions/experiences anyone on the list can share about any of these alternatives. I'm on the verge of making a decent deal for a loaded 3400c, but I'm sure I'll be needing one or more batteries before too long.
