Hi all,

I have a Powerbook 5300, the grey scale model with the passive matrix
screen. I bought it new, and from trades and swaps on the Swap list,
I can tell that this machine is in pristine perfect shape compared to
a lot of machines out there. I love the PCMCIA slots, the easy of
use of the machine, and the speed is fine for my work that I do on
the road when I take it with me. Here is the problem: the grey
scale screen is just too hard to use with the Internet anymore. Too
many things require color to work well, and the handicap of this
machine is the screen.

Now for the question: can I upgrade the machine to an active matrix
color screen from an older 5300 without doing more harm than good,
and more importantly, is there a source for the parts that I would
need to do this? If the price is huge, it makes no sense to spend
$500 or so on a laptop when I can get a brand new iBook or a G4
Powerbook for less than $2000 right now.

So, if you have any information you might share, or can point me in
the right direction, I sure would appreciate it. I've got a 2300
Duo, but frankly this machine runs better and is in better shape than
my second hand Duo. I am working to fix the Duo up, but even then,
may just give it to my brother for his use at work.

Your help greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

AL
