Make sure the master/slave jumpers are set correctly. IIRC they need to 
be set to 'Master' to work, or perhaps 'Cable Select'.

I thought Apple's drive setup was supposed to recognize *any* IDE 
drive...it has, at least, been my experience.

(which I just succesfully used to get DS to recognize a Seagate SCSI 
drive that had been rom-ed as a Compaq drive.)
