Acer notebook (Windows) systems used to have a BIOS-based discharge/charge
routine that was accessible from one of the buttons above the keyboard.
I've used it for a couple of years on my old AcerNote 350C before I sold it
to a friend a couple of years ago.  Still had the original battery in it
(Duracell, IIRC).
