Well, I am happy to report that some good people at Apple have reconsidered
my claim and decided to fix my 5300cs. Even though this unit had gone
through the REA program, it turns out that they merely re-soldered the bad
AC adapter connector to the logic board in the first place. It was
inevitable that this solder joint would fail again, and it did. So now I
await the shipping box. This time they will put in a whole new logic board
as the REA specifies.

I want to thank everyone here for support on this matter and I do want to
thank Apple for coming forward for one of their loyal users. Now I've just
got to find a 56mb ram stick somewhere cheap.

  Dave
