While I haven't experimented on my Duo batteries I did with both a PB 
180 and 5300c batteries.  I found that if you zapped the battery it 
would then charge normally.  How much charge it held is another 
matter.  By zapping I mean connecting the battery terminals to a 
voltage source in the correct polarity and briefly causing a 
substantial current flow (since the battery was close to a dead 
short).  I used a 12V bench supply.  On the batteries there are "+" 
and "-" marks.  On the  PB 180 batteries those were the only 
connections.  On the PB5300 and Duo batteries there are additional 
connections but the two marked ones go directly to the battery.
