I've posted this note B4, but it can't hurt to do it again: --------------------------------------------------------------- . . . the ide-scsi convertor from Century is the most cost effective solution I've come across so far. As large ATA laptop drives are plentiful and cheap, there's no reason to limit oneself to small, a 10GB or 20 GB drive costs scarcely more than smaller drives. At US$85 each plus shipping (< US$20 to USA) for just the adapter, it ain't cheap but all other alternatives are much more. I was able to put together a 2.5" x 17mm 30GB scsi drive for under US$200.
<http://online.century.co.jp/BittradeTest/e_shop/chb25int.html> --------------------------------------------------------------- I stuffed that 30GB drive into my 540C/167mhz PPC and it works a charm. I partitioned it as 5 HFS+ volumes, with the smallest ~500MB, and the largest two at 10GB. It boots Mac OS 9.1 from a ~2GB partition and has no problem using the 10GB volumes either. BTW, I'm pretty sure this item is the same unit sold by Calddrives for US$150. Hope that helped, Dan On 6/28/02 "b e n w e l l s | headwerkx" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > >Seeing as it's looking like I may need a new hard disk - despite everyone's >fabulous efforts, thank you all so much - I was wondering if anyone had any >experience with converting the IDE interfaces on ATA 2.5" drives to SCSI.
