I stripped a 1400 side-by-side with a 540c and the PRAM batteries are identical except for the lead length, the 1400 lead being a bit shorter. As I had opened the 500 to replace the pram batt and had spares I swapped a 500 PRAM batt into the 1400 and it's worked fine since (about 3 months ago.) The measured voltage of the old 1400 batt was the same as the replacement 500 batts, just a hair over 6V.
My first question to Ed or whomever might know: aren't the Duo and 5300 batteries the same as well, only distinguished by their lead length? Hmm, or maybe they _do_ have the same length lead, I can't recall. In any case the cells are the same size and voltage, right? If so, I reckon Ed could sell a few more to Duo folks who need to replace their Duos' aging PRAM batteries. My second question (to Ed or whomever might know): if the voltage of new-old-stock PRAM batteries reads the full 6V, how can I test to ensure that's not a false idea of a battery's condition? I've got a bag of PB500 PRAM batteries and they all show 6V or better, but that's just touching the lead contacts with a digital multimeter for a moment or two. Interestingly, I've got an engineering prototype PB3400 (marked 'Hooper DVT Unit', btw) and it uses one each of the 5300 and 500 type PRAM batteries, the 5300 type in the usual 5300 location, and the 500 type on the case floor in a molded oval area. The production 3400/3500 uses only one (completely different) battery stuck to the underside of the speaker grill.
