Jesse:
        I've acquired an old-dog 190 running 8.1 just nicely from a
half-complete set of 8.1 backup floppy disks (CD left out someplace far
away a long long time ago...) that came with my donated gift machine. A
good bit of my Frankensteinian OS is "borrowed" from 7.6.1 and even a
couple of 9.1 thingies. Tells you how sturdy and stable the OS is in a
crunch. No problem. Heck, you can even run 7.6.1 halfway nice with just
8.1's System file in place of the real deal. However I most miss not having
OS 8.1's file sharing files since my 190 does double duty backing-up my
6320's HD via file sharing and SimpleBackUp from the 6230's side but not
the 190's unfortunately. Those file sharing files can't be had for blood or
money it seems! My asprin for your headache is forget all the Vegas
sleight-of-hand tricks and after backing up your files just do a total
flush job by totally re-formating (via Disk SetUp?) your 190's HD then feed
it your CD before you stick anything "old" in it (first see if the CD's
stuff smokes first). If your clean install clicks okay then the culprit's
lurking your old files and use TechTools to rout him out! This is the
quickest and least hassle-ful route to settle your problem.
