I've heard of all sorts of random conflicts and odd things under 8.5+ with SD8. On the other hand, I've mostly heard that its advantages were largely incorporated into the OS by 8.5. SD 1.x was brilliant on System 7.1, makes it run much like 8.1 (multithreaded finder, etc) and such. I'm not entirely sure of it's use on more than 8.1 or so though.
