A success report:

I'm all hooked up with a Netgear MR-314 and an Orinoco Gold; I've not tried
tuening on encryption yet or anything but I have TCP/IP working fine. I'm
not sure which firmware is on the card, I might have to put it in a PC to
access that info, although I thought I saw it once I don't see it available
now.

I was sort of hoping that I'd have troubles as others here mentioned, since
I knew for sure that the Orinoco card would work in my Newton Messagepad,
and thus I could justify getting 2 wireless cards... but since this works
in both the laptop and the Messagepad I will put off the second card for a
future purchase.
