I encountered a password-protected 190 about a year ago. The nice thing was, the password dialog had a Cancel button. So I booted from a floppy, cancelled the password, and proceeded to a disk formatting utility. I *think* I used Apple's drive setup, but it might have been SilverLining. The utility allowed me to delete the partition, then create a new, blank partition with no password. I'm pretty sure Norton was not involved in the one I worked on, so YMMV. >I foolishly tried connecting >the disk _after_ the boot started from the floppy, and that lets me >boot to the desktop. But i can't reformat the disk (Disk Setup won't >see it!). This idea isn't so bad -- it actually works with SCSI drives and third-party formatters like SilverLining. I've done it by leaving the ribbon cable attached, starting the formatter, and then connecting power to the drive. But IDE is different, so the same approach may not work.
