Hello, >From someone on the swap list I bought a small, blue plastic case labelled "usb hard drive" on the front. On the bottom it says USB Hard Drive, Model VE-007NHD, a handwritten Serial Number and Made in China. I had also seen these advertised on ebay and at Computer Geeks. The case separates in half to put in a hard disk and on the inside it says USB IDE NHD 20010801. Also sent to me was a TDK CD-R with two usb extensions on it. I dragged these two extensions to my system folder and I have the usb mass storage extension installed. However, the drive does not start up and I was wondering if I had the correct drivers. USB storage devices may require an installer that has extensions but also software to format the drive. No installer disk was sent, so there is no Read-me file or company details. I think that with USB devices, there are different drivers for Mac OS8.6, Mac OS 9.x and the seller may be using another system (my emails aren't answered to check).
I have put two different powerbook hard drives into the case, but only the red light shows and no drive mounts on my ibook desktop. I do not hear either spin up, but when I unplug it there is a very small sound like a chime. I do not have an external power supply, only the connection to the usb port on the ibook, but was told it was working with a usb port on his powerbook. If someone bought a similar little blue plastic usb hard drive case with no other brand name, could they please tell me what installer software was on it or what the Read Me says?
