    I finally checked the extensions out--they're the very same drivers 
available from the Prolific site. The first time I looked at them, I 
just hit option-I, and they showed up as USB SDK 1.1. This time I 
actually tried to put them in my system folder and was notified that 
there was already an older extension with that name.
    In Apple System Profiler, this shows up as an Expansion Bay device 
in my Pismo--bus 3. It also shows up under USB (though without a drive 
specified) as an Atapi-4 Bridge Controller. In the details it describes 
the driver as USBPL2307ATABridge 1.0.9.
