One thing I have never heard mentioned but that makes
a lot of sense if you think about it, is to cycle the
PRAM battery in your Powerbook. I know that the 3400
and Kanga use a NiMH PRAM battery and I assume there
are other models that also use NiMH. Some models such
as the Duo's use rechargeable lithiums, so this would
not apply to them I don't suppose. Anyway, every
couple months, or whenever I think about it, I Quit
all applications and put my Kanga to Sleep. Then I
pull out the main battery and unplug the AC power
adapter. Wait a few minutes till the green Sleep LED
quits blinking then reapply the AC power. This causes
the PRAM battery to be nearly depleted and then starts
its charging cycle up again. I don't have any data
showing if this prolongs the life of the NiMH PRAM
battery, but it would seem that it should.
Just something to think about :-)
Greg
