Ben:

You hit it on the head!  I opened up my PB 190 and pressed down 
harder on the RAM expander module I installed back in 1996 and it 
cleared up the problem like magic. I don't know how techie you are, 
but can you explain exactly why a loose memory connection creates 
lines on the screen instead of outright corrupting the screen 
entirely? Thanks!

What's disturbing is that the foam strip that Apple 
warranty-installed under the keyboard to prevent that very problem 
obviously flunked the job. I'm also troubled that TechTools 3.08 
didn't catch any hint of such a problem even under all out hardware 
diagnostics.
