The internal modem on my 540C is not a full hardware modem; it needs extra software to run it. (It's a Global Village powerpoint mercury 19.2, I think). Once the extra software is there, I have a choice of "internal modem" or "modem/printer port" under the Modem control panel (MacOS 8.1).
