Have you tried resetting the PRAM and power manager? Unplug the AC adapter, then push the power key while holding down command-option-P-R. The startup chime should ring once, then do nothing. Do this two or three times more. Then press the reset button for several seconds, and (if you're lucky) the computer will start up; if not, try starting from the power key. In either case (assuming it starts), shut down immediately using the menu command, then plug in the power cord: if it stays off, everything should be fine from then on. If not, the service manual lists several more procedures to try before starting to replace parts. Get back to me off list for a copy of the manual -- for used parts, try the Swap list or eBay.
