Hello list, I'm new. Been an Apple user for 15 years, have owned many machines, currently a Beige G3 (w/numerous upgrades) running 9.1, a 7200/90 running 8.1, and a 7100/80 running MacOS 8.6...along with this problem 5300c (40 MB/1.1 GB replacement HD).
I bought the machine on consignment nearly three years ago, and used the REA to replace the logic board/fix plastics back in the spring. I fear that Something Very Bad has happened to my machine. As I was attempting to shoehorn a 9.1 installation on a laptop w/limited hard drive space (to get a BellSouth DSL installation to work), my laptop stopped booting. When I hit the power key, the only way that I can tell the machine is on is when I hit the "caps lock" key (which lights up). I no longer hear a chime, *nor* do I have hard drive activity, it no longer spins up. Does anybody have an educated guess on what has happened? Is it possible that my hard drive or logic board died as I was attempting the OS installation? Where can I go to find used 5300 parts? I work as a PC field technician, and I've performed the upgrades on all of my Macintoshes. I'd also like to find the field service manual for the 5300, I once discovered it online, but I've forgotten the location and didn't save the .pdf (I didn't own my laptop at the time). Any and all help is greatly appreciated. -- Michael R. Hicks Louisville, KY -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
