Two thoughts: 1. A long time ago when my PB100 would not start for any reason it turned out that the battery was bad. Taking it out solved the problem of startup. Running on the AC only worked, and a new battery was needed. Fortunately, at that time, Apple replaced the battery. I have also had similar problems with other PB's when the battery was bad.
2. If you can borrow a know "good" external power supply for that PB try that. 3. This might be worth a try. I don't know whether this is applicable to our vintage machines, but recently I have had problems with my iMac starting up (SE slot-loader 500 MHz) from sleep. Hung at grey screen with blank menu bar at top. AppleCare had me do something I have never heard of anywhere on lists--reset open firmware.parameters (different from resetting the PRAM which I had tried along with rebuilding the desktop). If this is not applicable to our machines, I am sure someone on the list will let us know. The procedure was: Unplug any external drive(s). a.Press physical restart button or power button and let it try to restart holding down Command-Opt-O-F (that's the letter "O") b.You see a command line prompt "O>_" (without the quotes) c.Type "Reset-all" without the quotes where the underline is flashing (that's a hyphen between the words) d.Press Return key voila, the computer started up. 4.They also thought I might have a memory module that the system didn't like and suggested I take it in to a dealer to have the RAM modules checked. . I have third party RAM. My RAM is OK.
