But it wount start with the battery.
my powerbook is a 520 and it has the same problem : the reason is that the internal battery is dead. When it's dead you need to plug the AC adapter to boot. If you want to be sure that the internal battery is dead, turn off the powerbook, remove the battery, unplug the Ac adapter and wait a few minutes. Then turn the pb on. If the date and time are still right, then the internal batery is OK and the problem comes from somewhere else. If the date came back to 1/1/04 then you should replace the internal battery. An alternative solution is to never shut down the powerbook but put it in sleep mode instead. That way, you will be able to wake it up even without the AC adapter plugged. The other posibility (found in an old MacWorld issue) : a fuse on the logic board may have blown. The black insulating "O" ring on the tip of the AC adaptor may be damaged and shorting out against the logic board. Have the adaptor repaired and the fuse replaced by a technician.
