The startup chime is a good thing.  It cold have
likely been a combination of a dead PRAM battery and a
loose memory card...  Thats where I think I would have
gone next, but 90 day warranties are good ;-)

I'm sure you'll have it, or another working one back
soon and can begin to enjoy it again. 

When you do get one back, I'd still seriously
recommend buying and replaceing the PRAM battery...
cheap and easy to do and will save you many future
headaches.
